Guests/Visitors with valid permits are allowed to park in the Mission Parking Structure or the West Parking Structure/West Parking Lot. Visitor permits expire at midnight of the day that it was issued.
A Tram service is offered free of charge from the West Parking Structure up to main campus. The tram stops every 5 to 7 minutes and drops off at the intersection in front of Olin Hall and Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice. For a complete tram schedule please click here.
Guest Parking Regulations
- Permit. While parking on campus, a valid USD permit must be displayed at all times. Permits are available at the Kiosk as you drive onto campus. Please ensure that the permit is fully displayed at all times with the date issued visible. If the kiosk is not staffed, a permit may be obtained at the Parking Service's office in the University Center, room 102.
- Reserved Spaces. While parking on campus please be mindful of reserved spaces. These spaces have RESERVED painted on the ground. These spaces are reserved from 6AM-5PM on weekdays, including summer, intersession, student breaks, holidays, finals, dead days and move in/move out days.
- Available Spaces. Please park in white lined spaces in the Mission Parking Structure located near the Main Entrance to campus or West Parking Structure near the West Entrance to campus. Please ensure that you are parked in a valid space. You may not park in yellow lined spaces, a fire lane (red curb), TOW AWAY space, on the sidewalk or taking up more than one space.
- Posted Signs. Please read posted signs that may be at the entrance to a lot, or at an individual parking space. Doing so can alleviate confusion and help avoid a citation.
- Only residents of the UTAs or PTAs are allowed to park in the lots next to these apartment complexes. A valid resident permit is required and a UTA or PTA sticker is required. These stickers are obtained from the RA of the complex. This sticker must be affixed to the front of the permit, but may not block the permit numbers.
- You may park in the West Parking Structure/West Lot with a valid UTA/PTA permit. You may park on main campus after 7:00p.m.
Alumni Parking Regulations

USD Parking Permit. While parking on campus, a valid USD parking permit must be displayed at all times. One day parking permit is free to all Alumni at each of the Kiosks. However, when visits exceed one day per week, alumni should purchase a weekly permit for $5.50. Alumni must display a valid Alumni Membership card (for information, click here) to the Parking attendant in order to receive a daily parking permit. Please ensure that the permit is fully displayed at all times with the date issued visible. If the kiosk is not staffed, a permit may be obtained at the Parking Service Office in the University Center, room 102 during normal business hours and Public Safety in Hughes 151 after hours. If you are staff or a returning student, you MUST purchase a valid staff or student parking permit.
