Dear USD Families,
By now your student is probably back home, perhaps working, taking a class or simply enjoying the summer months. We hope that you’re taking pleasure in having your student back home, planning family vacations and soaking up the sun. Although the campus isn’t as lively in the summer as it is during the academic year, the Office of Parent Relations is busy gearing up for some great upcoming events and opportunities such as:
We are available throughout the summer to answer questions, provide direction and assist in your students’ continued journey at USD.
Enjoy your summer!

Volunteer for Parent Torero Days
With nearly 1100 new first-year students and 400 transfer students arriving at USD this fall; sounds of cars parking alongside the residence halls, students trekking up and down the stairs moving in their belongings and “Hi, nice to meet you” mutual exchanges between two or three new roommates are sure to captivate the campus. I’m certain you remember these moments!
It’s time to pay it forward, and become a Parent Ambassador to help during Parent Torero Days (September 1-2, 2012). As an ambassador, you’ll get to meet and greet parents and families and share information about campus resources and your student will have the benefit of moving into his/her residence hall a couple of days early-nothing like beating the move-in traffic of returning students. Learn about the Parent Ambassador Program, join the program by clicking here and select Parent Orientation and Move-In Weekend. Questions can be directed to parents@sandiego.edu.

Sips for Scholarships
Sips for Scholarships in Napa, CA — A Success for USD Students in Need!
Last year the Parents Association Board unveiled the Parent Partnership Fund after discovering many students who had fallen on unexpected financial hardship could not afford to return to USD and finish their degree. With the average need being approximately $2,700, the Parent Board knew they could make a difference. One way to raise funds for this worthy cause was the creation of the Sips for Scholarships ladies weekend and regional event in Napa.
A fantastic time was had by all! With 24 USD moms, friends and alumni for the weekend and a total of 53 USD parents and alumni at the Saturday night fundraiser at Chimney Rock Winery the weekend netted $22,385 for the Parent Partnership Fund! These funds will go directly to students in need for the 2012-13 school year.
From Friday night’s Garden to Table dinner at the Marriott to Saturday’s private tour and tasting at Mondavi, to the cooking and tasting experience at Peju Winery and the silent auction fundraiser at Chimney Rock, all participants said it was more than they could have imagined-fantastic! The USD moms and friends created great friendships and by the last day were already talking about meeting again next year in Napa!
Renda Quinn ’86, Director of Parent Relations expressed, “We hope to make this an annual event and continue to grow the attendance and the funds so we can help as many students as possible each year. We thank all the parents, alumni and friends who participated and contributed to the weekend.”
The next Sips for Scholarships in Napa, CA will be planned for this coming March 2013. To reserve your space and for more information please email parents@sandiego.edu or call the Office of Parent Relations at (619) 260-4808.
