November 2014 Newsletter

Dear Torero Families,

Fall is a time for FAMILY.  We know how important family is this time of year, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas.  It’s a time to reunite and show each other how much you appreciate and support one another.

Here at Parent Relations, we try to provide as many opportunities for families to support their students while they are at school. We just had our amazing Homecoming and Family Weekend last month.  Thank you to all that were able to attend. Here are some photos from the event. Our next big event will be our annual Grandparents’ Weekend in February for grandparents and extended family to come to USD to visit your student and partake in some fun and exciting scheduled events, such as the inaugural 50’s themed “Be True To Your School” party and silent auction.

We are all part of the big USD family and we want you to know that we are here to support you. This month we have been running the Fall Email Outreach Campaign which allows parent ambassadors the opportunity to “Check-In” with newly arrived parents. We want to see how your student is doing with their overall transition into the USD Community.  If you haven’t been reached out to and you would like to share your student’s experience so far, you can call us at 619-260-4808 or email us at

Lastly, we would like to welcome a new member to the Parent Relations’ Family.  We are pleased to announce our new Assistant Director of Parent Relations, Milanie Castillo! She started on the last week of October and comes from The Leukemia Lymphoma Society San Diego/Hawaii Chapter after a 10+ year tenure there as Senior Campaign Manager. She will be responsible for coordinating events, managing all communication avenues and working closely with the Parent Ambassador program.

Remember we are all one family here at USD. We are truly thankful for you and your family.  Please let us know how we can support you, especially during the holidays.  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Warmest Wishes,
The Office of Parent Relations

Home for the Holidays

By Mary Levine P'12, P'13, Parents Association Board Member

This is an article that we have run in the past but we feel the message is important especially for our Freshman parents...

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching. Most students will be traveling home for the short break. Sleeping in their own bed, visiting with family and just enjoying being home is what most students want. Winter break, however, can be something totally different...Continue Reading.

Preparing for the Holidays

The Holidays are approaching which means food, fun and family are just around the corner. Health and Wellness Information

Beginning in fall 2014, all University of San Diego full-time students are required to carry health insurance.   This requirement ensures that students in need of health and/or mental health care beyond the scope of services provided at USD by the on-campus Wellness Units, can access the appropriate care and resources in the community.

Many students and families have already completed the process of submitting a decision form to either enroll in or waive out of the plan at the beginning of this fall semester. Thank you very much for your effort in submitting your information. Please note that this process takes place every academic year in which a new form will need to be submitted at that time...Continue Reading.
