USD’s Outdoor Adventures will be offering a Transfer Pre-Orientation Camping Adventure exclusively for new transfer students this year! This unique trip is designed to give you an opportunity to get a head start in transitioning to USD. You will get to know other new transfers and learn tips and strategies from transfer student leaders that were in your situation just a short while ago in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Dates: Tuesday, August 23 – Thursday, August 25, 2016
Cost: $250 - Scholarships are available to students receiving significant need-based financial aid
Location: Laguna Mountains, Cleveland National Forest
Departure Point: Trip will begin and end on the USD campus
The Transfer Pre-Orientation Camping Adventure will take place in the Laguna Mountains, just 90 minutes, but a world away, from the USD campus. You will spend two nights camping in tents at a national forest campground and hiking a section of the Pacific Crest Trail – a national treasure that traverses the west coast from Mexico to Canada. We will hike through chaparral, scrub oaks and pines to the rim of the Jeffrey pine-shaded Laguna Mountains. Look forward to expansive views of Anza-Borrego State Park to the east, San Diego County, and even the Pacific Ocean to the west!
By the time you return to campus for Fall Orientation, you will already have a group of friends, connections to transfer student leaders and USD staff, and be well on your way to making a successful transition to USD.
More detailed information about this adventure, including an itinerary, is available through Outdoor Adventures.
It was a really amazing feeling to go back to campus and already have people who I knew and could say hi to. I definitely felt a stronger sense of belonging and community at USD from the outset thanks to Pre-O.
