Torero Days

Drop Shadow

New Transfer Students

June 1, 2012

Dear Incoming Transfer Student,

Congratulations and welcome to the University of San Diego! We are so excited that you have chosen USD as your next academic pathway. As a transfer student myself, I can assure you that your journey here will be an extraordinary experience. I am pleased to send you this letter containing important information that will aid in preparing you for your first adventure here at USD; Transfer Torero Days 2012! Although you are already well acquainted with the college atmosphere, you will find that each campus is very different and we want to assist you with a successful transition to USD.

Transfer Torero Days is a two-day orientation program that will formally begin your experience here at USD. The events throughout this program will help you become more familiar with the University’s Mission Statement, academic life, campus community, and student involvement. We will also be introducing you to our exciting city of San Diego! Throughout the events we have planned, you will have the opportunity to meet and make connections with your fellow incoming Transfer students. Your participation in Transfer Torero Days will give you a chance to adjust to your new campus before classes officially begin.

To kick things off, we formally begin the Orientation program with the New Student Welcome on Sunday, September 2nd. Our final program will be the Harbor Cruise on the evening of Monday, September 3rd. The programs and events on the schedule have been specifically designed to aid in the Transfer student transition. You will be engaging in many of our activities with a small group of other incoming Transfer students and a Transfer Team Torero Squad member, who is a current USD student. We have sessions that will answer your academic questions, introduce you to many important campus resources, and show you how to make the most of your experience at USD. Also part of Transfer Torero Days is the Transfer Convocation. This is a special ceremony that formally inducts you into the USD academic community.

As you will notice, there are a few events that occur around Transfer Torero Days. On Saturday, September 1st, new Resident Transfer students will be moving in. Please see the enclosed Move-In Day Instructions sheet. There are also a few activities planned solely for these new Residents later that day. Also prior to the official beginning of the Orientation program, we invite all new Transfers and their families to the Welcome Mass held in the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Sunday morning. International and Business students have mandatory meetings to attend on Tuesday September 4th.

Please note that while a majority of the Transfer Torero Days programs are free of charge, there are a few optional social events that will require an admission fee. Pizza Night at Giovanni’s is a Transfer student exclusive event and the Harbor Cruise is for new Transfer and International students. I attended both of these events as a new Transfer student and I can honestly say that I am so glad I went! They provide a relaxed, social atmosphere where you can interact informally with your fellow Transfers. For me, they made a huge difference in my social connection to USD. Transfer Torero Days also includes a night at Sea World, an event for all new students. Tickets for these events can be purchased when you arrive to campus.
