Spring Orientation

This program is specially designed for incoming first-year and transfer students starting in Spring 2019. We want you to get the essential information you will need to make a smooth transition to USD. Our goal is for you to:

  • Prepare for classes: Prepare for academic success by connecting with the deans and faculty in your school or college.
  • Meet your community: Meet the student leaders, faculty, and staff who are here to support you, this semester and beyond.
  • Connect with resources: Receive information about essential resources and connect with campus departments to ensure you have a great start at USD.

All new students are expected to attend Spring Orientation. Be sure to confirm your attendance in your MySanDiego Portal (in the "Admissions" tab, "New Students" sub-tab) by January 15, and let us know about any accommodations you may require in advance of Spring Orientation.

Tuesday, January 22: Move-In Day for Residential Students

  • New first-year and transfer students will move in on Tuesday, January 22. Expect to receive an email from Residential Life with Move-In Day instructions and details on your assigned move-in time.
  • There will be a community meeting for residential students this evening. This meeting is mandatory for all new residential students!

Wednesday, January 23: Spring Orientation @ Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice

Thursday, January 24: Special Sessions Day and International Orientation

  • Please note, if you are an international transfer or first-year student, you are required to attend a separate International Orientation on this day. Please visit the Office of International Students and Scholars page for more information on International Orientation.
  • There will also be several special sessions for military affiliated students and those interested in the accounting, sales, and marketing industries.

Weekend Events

The Orientation and Learning Communities Teams have planned optional social events on Friday evening and Saturday to help you meet other students and explore San Diego. These events are free to attend and you are encouraged to do so! Spouses and children are welcome, but to allow us to use our resources wisely and have appropriate food counts, please email orientation@sandiego.edu to let us know if you plan to bring family members to the Friday evening social. You will receive an email inviting you to RSVP for this event!
