Dr. Close received her BSN degree from Texas A & M at Corpus Christi, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University. Additionally, she received her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of San Diego. Dr. Close has been a practicing nurse for over 30 years and has been a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the last 10 years. Dr. Close is board certified as a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist.

Dr. Close is the Director of the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) and teaches in the Clinical Nurse Specialist Program, as well as the MEPN program. For her dissertation, Dr. Close focused on documentation of delirium in the hospitalized older adult. Her other interests include dementia, frailty and palliative care. Dr. Close is active locally and nationally in professional organizations related to gerontology. Dr. Close served as a work group member on the American Nurses Association Gerontological Nursing Scope & Standards of Practice Revision. She is a member of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, California Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Sigma Theta Tau International.
