Jacqueline Close is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Master’s Entry Program in Nursing and the Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist Program. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree from Corpus Christi State University, and her Master’s of Science in Nursing from Point Loma Nazarene University. Additionally, she received her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of San Diego.

Dr. Close has been a practicing nurse for over 30 years and has been a Clinical Nurse Specialist for the last 10. Her experience has covered a number of specialties to include medical, surgical, orthopedic, critical care, gastroenterology, psychiatry, and gerontology. Dr. Close is board certified as a Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist.

For her dissertation, Dr. Close focused on documentation of delirium in the hospitalized older adult.Her other interests include dementia, palliative care, and end of life care. Dr. Close is active locally and nationally in professional organizations related to gerontology. Dr. Close serves on the board of the National Gerontological Nurses Association and serves on the research committee of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists. Dr. Close served as a work group member on the American Nurses Association Gerontological Nursing Scope & Standards of Practice Revision. She is a member of the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, California Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Sigma Theta Tau International, National Gerontological Nurses Association, Academy of Medical Surgical Nursing, and Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.
