Dr. Sandra Walsh, Professor of Nursing in the Graduate Program at Barry University School of Nursing in Miami Shores Florida and clinical Professor of the University of San Diego in San Diego, California has received numerous honors for her innovative teaching strategies and unique interventions with vulnerable patient populations. She has been honored as an outstanding faculty member at the University of Miami and Barry University. In 2009 she was recognized in as one of the Great 100 Nurses from the Florida Nurses Association and was inducted as aFellow in the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN). She has received distinguished alumni awards from Duke University and the University of South Carolina and s inducted in 2011 into the East Carolina College of Nursing “Hall of Fame”. On March 23, 2011 Dr. Walsh received a Melba Cather Award for Excellence in Education from the Lambda Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI).

Dr. Walsh has also been internationally recognized by STTI as a recipient of the Edith Moore Copeland Award for Excellence in Creativity and a winner of a Blair L. Sadler International Arts in Healthcare Award for her “Arts at the Bedside” project with family caregivers and persons with cancer. Her recent research and publications in collaboration with Dr. Shiue Chen in Taiwan have focused on care of older persons with implementation of art activity interventions between BSN students and elders to promote excellence in gerontology care worldwide. Her research trajectory emanated from her dissertation, “Future images: An art intervention with suicidal adolescents” guided by USD Dean Sally Hardin. In 2007, Dr. Walsh was the guest speaker at the 19th Annual Janet A. Rodgers Lectureship, held at the USD Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.

In addition to her professional activities, Dr. Walsh is an award winning member of the Miami Watercolor Society and a violist in the Alhambra Community Orchestra in Miami Florida.
