Dr. Jill Bormann, a Psychiatric Mental Health Clinical Specialist, is a Clinical Professor in the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego and a Research Nurse Scientist at VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS). She received a BN from Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD, an MSN from the University of Texas at Austin, and a PhD from Wayne State University, in Detroit, MI. She also completed a VA Nurse Post-Doctoral fellowship at the Veterans Administration San Diego Health Care. Her research and clinical interests are in the areas of mental health, integrative and complementary therapies, and spiritual well-being. Dr. Bormann conducts a research program on therapeutic health-related outcomes of the “Mantram Repetition Program” in various groups, including patients, family caregivers, and professional healthcare workers. Most recently, she has received the “Spirit of Planetree Award for Complementary Therapy,” and the “Planetree Implementation Manual Award,” as well as a 2012 Research Award from Sigma Theta Tau International, Gamma Gamma Chapter. Her recent publications describe her research findings related to the efficacy of mantram repetition on stress, quality of life, and spiritual well-being in veterans, health care workers, and in HIV patients.
