9/11 Ceremony

The San Diego Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) held simultaneous 9/11 memorials Friday on two of the city’s largest universities – University of San Diego, and San Diego State University – marking the eighth anniversary.
Accompanied by representatives from the Army and Air Force ROTC units, ten Marines, Sailors and Midshipmen honored the fallen during a joint service formation at the San Diego State University flagpole near Hepner Hall.
Representing the NROTC were: SSgt. Robert O’Berg, SSgt. Gabre Bailey, SSgt. Brandon Penner, Sgt. Thomas Morton, Sgt. Marisol Salgado, Officer Candidates Ryan Bowers and Sean Poyer, and Midshipmen Mark Smith, Kelsey Vaughan and Tricia Hodgson.
Across town at the USD 9/11 memorial near the Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, the annual tribute was conducted according to the four specific moments when the airplanes crashed on that fateful day. Participating in this ceremony (Pictured Above) were: SSgt. George Hurley, MIDN Kamilee Pizzaro and Officer Candidate David Bradley.
Students from both campuses paused momentarily on their way to and from class to observe the two remembrance ceremonies, and many passed by to thank the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines for their service to country.
