9/11 Ceremony

On Sept. 11, 2015 hundreds of students, faculty and staff attended as the San Diego Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) held simultaneous 9/11 memorials on two of the city’s largest universities – University of San Diego, and San Diego State University – marking the fourteenth anniversary. The ceremony honors the memory of those lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States.

Marines, Sailors and Midshipmen lowered the flag to half-mast to honor the fallen and signal a moment of silence for victims of the attack. Students from both campuses paused momentarily on their way to and from class to observe the two remembrance ceremonies, and many passed by to thank the Marines, Sailors, and Midshipmen for their service.

Taps were played to honor the victims of the attacks at the exact times during which each of the planes crashed into the World Trade Center, and again at the moment when the buildings collapsed. The ceremonies were concluded with a short prayer, featuring members of the student body and staff.
