CDR William Cody
Commander William F. Cody was born in Long Beach, California and raised in the San Fernando Valley, Tennessee and Alabama. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in July of 1981 and served as a Cryptologic Technician, (Collection) in USS SOUTH CAROLINA (CGN-37) and at NSGA Augsburg, Germany. He was accepted into the Enlisted Commissioning Program in June of 1988.
After graduation from the NROTC Unit at University of Texas at Austin, he completed Flight Training at VT-10 in Pensacola, Florida and at the 452nd Flying Training Squadron at Mather AFB, California. After winging, he reported to VP-31 at Moffett Field, California for Fleet Replacement Training, and then to VP-46 where he completed a homeport change to Whidbey Island, Washington, and 2 WESTPAC Deployments to Misawa, JA, Kadena, JA, Diego Garcia, and Masirah, Oman.
Following VP-46, served as an instructor and Flight Commander at the 562nd Flying Training Squadron at Randolph AFB, Texas. He then located to San Diego for his disassociated sea tour at Commander, Carrier Group ONE where he served as the Communications Officer and Flag Secretary, and as Multi-Platform Training Officer on the staff of Fleet ASW Training Center before reporting to VP-9 as a Department Head in 2002.
Following a “Battle E” award and two additional WESTPAC deployments, CDR Cody reported to Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Command as a plankowner in 2004, specializing in coordinated ASW training. He followed this assignment with duty at COMUSNAVCENT in Manama, Bahrain, serving as the Director of Current Operations. Commander Cody reported to Fleet Anti-Submarine Training Center in October of 2007 and served as the Training Officer and Executive Officer. He reported to NROTC Unit San Diego in July of 2011.
CDR Cody holds a BA from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of the Incarnate Word. His awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, one Air Force Commendation Medal, three Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon with Operational Distinguishing Device, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Battle “E”, three Good Conduct Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, five Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, and two Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbons.
Commander Cody is married to the former Ellen Dreier of Kalamazoo, Michigan. They have three children, Justin, Juliana and Paige.
