University of San Diego Hosts Women In Higher Education Leadership Summit

SAN DIEGO, CA – More than fifty women from around the world will attend the Women in Higher Education Leadership Summit (WHELS) at the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) from August 2 through 5. Originally a part of the Community College Leadership Development Initiative, WHELS was expanded in 2012 with the goal of meeting leadership development needs across higher education, with a focus on specific leadership issues facing women.

The event is a part of the SOLES Women’s Leadership Academy, highlighting the school’s recognition for the need for more scholarship and development for women’s leadership. The summit will provide the tools and education necessary for women to deal with challenges in the workplace while helping them to develop their own leadership skills and capabilities. The conference’s aim is to address a nationwide initiative to help women reach higher levels in education and equip them with the tools to succeed in a variety of capacities.

“Providing women in higher education with an experience that empowers them to overcome challenges in the workplace is essential,” said Nick Ladany, Dean of SOLES. “We are fortunate at USD to have the opportunity to be a facilitator of future change agents, who in turn will continue to be a great inspiration for others.”

Summit attendees will take part in a 360 degree Leadership Circle Assessment, one-on-one coaching sessions with leadership personnel, and workshops featuring experts in leadership and higher education. Attendees will also explore common issues facing women in higher education while taking part in discussions on various topics including: multi-cultural aspects of leadership, student success strategies, and ethics. Registration is required to attend. To learn more about the summit, visit the event webpage.
