Ruben Barrales, president and CEO of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, will serve as the speaker at the Burnham-Moores Center’s Master of Science in Real Estate (MSRE) graduation, scheduled for July 13, 2007, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in USD’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice.

The graduation ceremony is the third one for the MSRE program, which began in the fall of 2004. Twenty students are completing the 11-month cohort program, which incorporates industry-sponsored live projects, executive roundtables, career mentorships and traditional classroom interaction. The graduating class ranges in age from 23 to 50. Fourteen of the students were employed while they were enrolled in the program, and 17 entered the program with previous real estate experience.

Barrales has an extensive background in both government and private industry, with experience as an elected official and as an advocate for business. He served in the White House for five years as deputy assistant to President George W. Bush, where he was the president’s liaison to state and local elected officials. Prior to joining Bush’s staff, Barrales was president and CEO of Joint Venture: Silicon Valley Network, a civic organization of Silicon Valley business, government and academic leaders that advocates for public policies favorable to Silicon Valley’s technology-driven economy.

In 2005, Barrales received the Ohtli Award from the government of Mexico for his commitment to improving the well-being of Hispanics in the United States. Hispanic Business Magazine has listed Barrales as one of the “100 Most Influential Hispanics” in the United States three times during the past decade. In 2000, the World Economic Forum named Barrales, “A Global Leader for Tomorrow.”

Founded in 1993 and formally dedicated in 2004, the University of San Diego’s Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate is committed to delivering outstanding education, industry outreach and research services to advance responsible leadership in the real estate profession.
