Sold-out event expected to raise $50,000 to fund scholarships for deserving students
Some 750 University of San Diego alumni, parents and friends will gather at the Joan B. Kroc Institute of Peace and Justice’s Garden of the Sea on Sunday, July 14 from 2 to 5 p.m. for the University of San Diego’s fifth annual Wine Classic. (Media wishing to cover the event should use the West USD Entrance at the bottom of Linda Vista Road and proceed up the hill to the Peace & Justice Institute.)
The event is expected to raise $50,000 for student scholarships and features 30 USD-affiliated wineries from Napa Valley to Baja California, along with gourmet food stations, live music, and a silent auction of wine-related items. Participating wineries include CADE Winery, Charles Krug, Whitehall Lane and St. Supéry.
Proceeds go to USD’s Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund. Created, funded and directed by fellow USD alumni, the scholarship fund was launched in 2006 to provide much-needed scholarships for USD students. Recipients of this scholarship are current USD students with financial need, strong academic merit and who give back to the USD and local community.
“What makes the USD Wine Classic so great is that it was created by alumni, features more than 30 wineries, many with USD alumni and family connections, and all proceeds go to fund much-needed scholarships for deserving USD students,” said USD Alumni Relations Director Charles Bass. “And, it’s a lot of fun!”
Sponsors for this year’s event include Bartell Hotels, 101 Things to Do in San Diego, and Torrey Pines Bank.
