With the historic announcement of the election of the first pope from the Americas, the University of San Diego will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving for Pope Francis on Tuesday, March 19 at 12:15 p.m. in Founders Chapel. The Mass takes place the day of the formal installation of the Holy Father in Rome.
The media is welcome to attend the Mass.
Also on Wednesday, there will be a panel discussion, “Priorities for the New Pope: What Does the Church Today Need Most?” The discussion will take place from 12:15 to 2 p.m. in the Manchester Auditorium. Panelists will include: Todd Salzman, professor of ethics at Creighton University and a USD alumnus; Susie Babka, USD assistant professor of Theology and Religious Studies; Andrew McMillin, USD associate university minister; Bernard Kelly, a Spiritan priest and former missionary; Elizabeth Loomis, Sister in the Society of the Holy Child Jesus; and Thomas Reifer, USD associate professor of sociology.
The panel discussion is free and open to media and the public.
