Violence and Facts: TBI’s Certificate Program in Sinaloa Takes on the Role of Memory in Peacebuilding

Monday, March 27, 2017TOPICS: US-Mexico Border

Preventing violence begins with talking about it and mobilizing stakeholders who are willing to listen.  TBI Director Ev Meade and a group of graduate students from the Kroc School of Peace Studies are leading a large and lively certificate program in Applied Peace Education at the Tec. de Monterrey in Culiacán, Sinaloa, this spring.  Thanks to a great local outreach effort and the generous support of Grupo C1 (the philanthropic arm of the Coppel companies), more than 120 leaders of local NGOs, university faculty and students, and public officials have participated in the first three weekend modules.  The energy in the room is palpable, and we have high hopes that the experience will carry over into multiple new collaborative efforts to build a more peaceful Sinaloa.
