| Title | She's Ready to Champion the Old Masters |

| Message | San Diego Union-Tribune-- As of August, Victoria Sancho Lobis is also the first curator of the print collection at the University of San Diego, as well as the new curator of its fine art galleries. The handsome study center that houses the prints, along with the Hoehn Family Galleries – both in Founders Hall – are designed to make firsthand study of fine art prints (etchings, lithographs and other rare images by the likes of Goya and Rouault) part of the curriculum at the university. “I want to make this kind of work more accessible,” she says. This will be true literally, since the study center has walk-in hours for students and faculty with a serious interest in the works housed there. And Lobis also believes in finding ways to present an artist like Rubens in a way that humanizes him, that makes him seem less of a historical icon. (A financial gift from Robert A. Hoehn, aUSD trustee and owner of car dealerships, made the study center and the renovation of older galleries possible; he also donated many of the works in the print collection.) |
