Schlichtman Publishes in Top Urban Journal

John Joe Schlichtman, Ph.D., assistant professor, Sociology, recently published the article "The Niche City Idea:  How a Declining Manufacturing Center Exploited the Opportunities of Globalization," International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, Vol. 33, Issue 1 (2009): 105-125.

In this article, Schlichtman examines how a small city can forge a global service industry niche.  He foresees a new post-industrial "Niche City," a city that forges global centrality by creating an economic specialization in a specific segment of the global service economy.
