| Title | Helping to Save Children's Lives in Uganda |

| Message | Inside USD-- In the summer of 2006, Archbishop Paul Bakyenga and the chancellor of his archdiocese shared his vision with parishioners of San Rafael Parish in Rancho Bernardo and with Anita Hunter, professor and director of the University of San Diego’s masters of science in nursing program. The archbishop’s request of these people was simple, says Hunter: “Can you help me save children?” After running a medical clinic in Ghana, West Africa, for nine years, Hunter knew the challenges of creating health care facilities and programs in undeveloped countries. Though the merits of the idea appealed to her, she knew that she had to see Mbarara for herself before committing to the program. A 2007 visit to the archdiocese convinced her that the task was possible. Since then, three more groups from USD have visited Mbarara, among them faculty and graduate students from the School of Buiness Administration and the College of Arts and Science. |
