SAN DIEGO (August 29, 2018) – For almost a century, nonprofit American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has worked vigorously to “defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." The case of Ms. L, et. al., vs. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, et. al., set in San Diego, was taken on by New Yorker Lee Gelerent, ACLU’s lead attorney, to stop the Trump administration from separating children and parents at the border. Regarding this hearing, The San Diego Union-Tribune quoted University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Professor and Executive Director of USD’s Center for Public Interest Law and its Children's Advocacy Institute Bob Fellmeth, “I’m not a member of the ACLU and disagree with them in some areas, but I’ve never been prouder of the ACLU.”
