SAN DIEGO (August 2, 2018) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Robert J. Francavilla, ’79 (BBA), ’83 (JD), was inducted as a fellow in the prestigious International Academy of Trial Lawyers, (IATL) at a ceremony held July 20, during the Academy’s mid-year meeting in Colorado Springs.

Each year, IATL inducts fellows who have achieved a career of excellence through demonstrated skill and ability in jury trials, trials before the court and appellate practice. Members are engaged in civil practice on both the plaintiff’s and the defendant’s side of the courtroom and the trial of criminal cases. The Academy invites only lawyers who have attained the highest level of advocacy who are inducted following a comprehensive screening process, which identifies the most distinguished members of the trial bar by means of both peer and judicial review. Francavilla was evaluated by his colleagues and judges in his jurisdiction and was highly recommended.

CaseyGerry’s managing partner David S. Casey Jr., ’74 (JD), who is an IATL fellow as well as board member, notes membership in the International Academy is an important invitation-only achievement limited to 500 active U.S. trial lawyers and 150 fellows from 40 countries around the globe. “Robert is well deserving of this latest honor – which adds to our firm’s growing list of national accolades. He is one of the region’s most accomplished and sought after trial lawyers and has attained dozens of multi-million dollar results in recent years,” he said.

Francavilla’s practice areas include personal injury, head trauma, wrongful death, automobile accidents, and aviation litigation among others.  A CaseyGerry attorney for over 30 years, Francavilla has been listed in the 2018 edition of San Diego Super Lawyers, named One of SD Metro Magazine’s Best Attorneys for 2017, awarded 2016 Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD), and featured in the 2016 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.  Francavilla is a past president of Consumer Attorneys of San Diego as well as a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, American Association for Justice, and San Diego County Bar Association.

In his free time between trials, Robert, who is a native of Los Angeles and has lived in San Diego for 35 years, enjoys spending time with his wife Carla and their two sons. He also enjoys running, weight training and attending his children’s activities.
