Professor Fields Discusses Cross-Cultural Literacy in the Classroom at National Conference at the University of Minnesota Law School

San Diego (September 21, 2017) –In keeping with the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law’s commitment to inclusion and diversity, Professor Shawn Fields presented at the July 2017 biennial Legal Writing Institute national conference at the University of Minnesota School of Law titled “Acknowledging Lines: Talking About What Unites and Divides Us.” The workshop discussed a series of complex issues facing faculty and students as law schools become more diverse in an increasingly polarized and politically charged climate. Fields’s presentation, “Incorporating Cross-Cultural Issues into the Law School Classroom,” discussed ways law professors can promote diversity and inclusion in the classroom by promoting cross-cultural literacy and including multicultural and inclusive hypotheticals into their curricula.

Fields also presented “Incorporating Cross-Cultural Issues into the Law School Classroom,” at a faculty training workshop at California Western School of Law titled “Teaching and Mentoring Our Diverse Law School Populations.” The workshop discussed ways to increase diversity within law schools and ways to promote inclusion and acceptance for all in the law school classroom.
