Paris Program Kickoffs with Classes Taught by Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judges and French Law Professor

San Diego (June 19, 2017) – The University of San Diego (USD) School of Law offers summer abroad classes in Paris and London.  The Paris study abroad program kicked off on June 6, 2017.  The program, directed by USD School of Law Dean Stephen Ferruolo, is led by faculty members Hon. Michael Hawkins, Hon. M. Margaret McKeown, and Professor Pierre Legrand.

Judges Hawkins and McKeown co-teach International Internet & Intellectual Property Law. Judge Hawkins, who has been teaching since the start of the program last week and has finished for the summer, teaches the first half of the course followed by Judge McKeown, who teaches the second half. Professor Legrand teaches Comparative Law – Paris, which is a course that focuses on foreign law.

“The Paris program is a wonderful success again this summer, thanks to our outstanding faculty, Judges Hawkins and McKeown and Professor Legrand from the Sorbonne,” said Dean Stephen Ferruolo.  “The students are fully engaged both academically and exploring the many attraction of Paris and France. This is a great opportunity for students to gain the global fluency so important to legal practice in the 21st century."

“USD provides world-class summer educational opportunities for law students both in Paris and London,” said Professor Michael Devitt, USD’s Director of Summer Law Programs Abroad.  “We have created these programs to provide our students with the highest caliber of faculty in wonderful state of the art facilities. And we remain committed to continue to provide our students these exciting and informative educational opportunities to assist them in becoming more knowledgeable about critically important aspects of international law and policy.”

About USD School of Law Summer Programs

USD’s summer study abroad programs are open to USD law students and students enrolled in ABA-accredited and foreign law schools, who are in good academic standing and have completed at least one year of full-time or part-time study. These programs, held in both Paris and London, provide intensive training in international, comparative and foreign law, while introducing American students to the legal institutions of another country.  At the same time, students from Commonwealth and civil law traditions experience American legal viewpoints and problem-solving methods.  Programs bring together students and expert faculty for a rich experience of academic and cultural interchange.
