USD Law Alumnus Vern D. Schooley '66 (JD) Receives Prestigious A. Sherman Christensen Award

Vern D. Schooley, ’66 (JD)

Alexandria, Va. (August 6, 2014) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumnus Vern D. Schooley, ’66 (JD), has been selected to receive the prestigious A. Sherman Christensen Award by the American Inns of Court. The award will be presented at the annual American Inns of Court Celebration of Excellence at the Supreme Court of the United States in October. The event will be hosted by Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Schooley is a partner with Fulwider Patton LLP in Los Angeles, where he specializes in the prosecution of patent and trademark applications; infringement causes; and defense of patent and trademark infringement claims. He has appeared before various federal trial courts, the CAFC and the International Trade Commission, and has extensive experience in the prosecution of domestic and foreign patent applications for a broad range of products.

Long active in the American Inns of Court, Schooley was founding president of the Joseph A. Ball/Clarence S. Hunt American Inn of Court, and has served as counselor since 1990. He was also a founding president of the Judge Paul R. Michel Intellectual Property American Inn of Court and has helped establish new Inns across the United States.

Schooley was selected Lawyer of the Year by the Long Beach Bar Association in 1994 and received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Linn Inn Alliance of the American Inns of Court in 2011. He has served as a trustee of the American Inns of Court.
