San Diego (June 25, 2014) – The University of San Diego (USD) School of Law announced a new collaboration with Direito GV, Escola de Direito de São Paulo, FGV (DGV) located in São Paulo, Brazil.

"I am very pleased about our collaboration with DGV, which is known as one of the best and most innovative law schools in Brazil," said Stephen Ferruolo, Dean and Professor of Law at USD School of Law.

Members of USD School of Law’s highly ranked tax and other faculties will spend a portion of their late spring and summer sessions in Brazil as visiting international faculty of DGV, where they will interact with DGV’s highly regarded faculty and students, and enhance DGV’s curriculum by offering courses from USD’s well-established tax and other designated curricula.

"Recognizing that preparing law graduates for the dynamic global legal environment does not stop at any nation's edge, DGV and USD School of Law take an innovative step in creating a truly integrated program linking Brazilian and United States law schools," said Dr. Oscar Vilhena Vieira, Dean and Professor of Law at DGV.

The new collaboration will be overseen at USD School of Law by John Forry, professor-in-residence, and at DGV by Maria Lucia L.M. Padua Lima, associate dean of the International Affairs Office.

The first USD School of Law faculty will visit DGV in the summer of 2014.

Brazil’s position in the list of leading powerful nations has led to a change in the contents of the classic areas of law and the emergence of new fields of study and new types of law practices, which calls for law professionals who are both highly qualified and capable of working at higher levels in the world of law. To meet the demands of today's market, DIREITO GV students are prepared to work in public and private organizations and to dialogue with other fields of knowledge, so that they can positively and profoundly influence the legal scenario in Brazil and in other nations.

DIREITO GV is a school fully dedicated to teaching and research and committed to constant innovation, both in using participatory methods of teaching and conducting research – preferably empirical, collective, and of public interest — with high level of quality. Concerning executive education, DIREITO GV seeks to enter deeply into the legal market, bearing in mind the integration of law and other fields of knowledge and the development of important skills for the professional performance of its students. The distinguishing feature of its Professional Development and Specialization in Law (GVlaw) consists in research groups that produce their own teaching materials and literature, to provide students with updated materials consistent with the assumptions of DIREITO GV.

With these assumptions and actions in mind, DIREITO GV seeks to consolidate itself as an alternative to the traditional model of legal education and maintain a critical stance in this field of knowledge.
