USD Law Professor Partnoy Teaches the Art and Science of Delay in New Book, WAIT

San Diego (June 13, 2012) - University of San Diego (USD) School of Law George E. Barrett Professor of Law and Finance Frank Partnoy has released a new book, WAIT: The Art and Science of Delay.

Weaving together hundreds of studies in fields ranging from neuroscience and psychology to finance and law, Partnoy develops a picture of decision-making with a surprising conclusion: slowing down our response time when making almost any decision consistently yields better results. In WAIT, Partnoy explains, that the truth behind the sayings “Don’t just do something, stand there.” and “procrastinating at the speed of light.”

“Having mined the best of American research in fields as wide-ranging as finance, behavioral economics and law, Frank Partnoy has written a beguilingly readable treatise that boils down to a single, easily digestible conclusion: in our busy modern lives, most of us react too quickly. Wait will naturally and rightly be compared to Daniel Kahneman’s Thinking, Fast and Slow as a trail-blazing book exploring the hidden crannies and the treacherous pitfalls of human decision-making." said Roger Lowenstein, author of The End of Wall Street and When Genius Failed.

There will be two opportunities in San Diego to hear Professor Partnoy discuss his new book WAIT during his book tour.

Copies of WAIT will be available for purchase at both of events.

Professor Partnoy teaches and writes in the areas of business law, corporate law, corporate finance and financial market regulation at the University of San Diego School of Law. He is also the director of the school's Center for Corporate and Securities Law. His other books include; The Match King: Ivar Kreuger, The Financial Genius Behind a Century of Wall Street Scandals; Infectious Greed: How Deceit and Risk Corrupted the Financial Markets (Henry Holt); F.I.A.S.C.O.: Blood in the Water on Wall Street (W.W. Norton). Before joining the USD faculty in 1997, Partnoy worked as an investment banker at CS First Boston and Morgan Stanley in New York, and as an attorney at Covington and Burling in Washington, D.C. He was co-recipient of the 1999 Thorsnes Prize for Excellence in Teaching and is the 2004 Herzog Endowed Scholar.
