Scott Martinez ’06 (JD) Named Denver Deputy City Attorney

Denver (January 26, 2012) - Denver Mayor Michael Hancock appointed Scott Martinez, ’06, deputy city attorney on December 29.

As the deputy city attorney, Martinez assists in overseeing the 88 attorneys and 91 staff members within the city attorney’s office. He will be working alongside city attorney Douglas J. Friednash, ’87, providing support in representing the city in all civil and prosecutorial litigation, advising on legal matters affecting Denver’s interests, and drafting legislation and legal opinions.

Martinez worked as an attorney at Denver-based Holland & Hart LLP, and his practice areas included government investigations, commercial litigation and data security. He recently was recognized for his work in crafting the boundaries for Colorado’s congressional and legislative districts.

Martinez was appointed by Governor Bill Ritter in 2009 to serve on the Colorado Election Reform Commission. He took a short leave from Holland & Hart to serve on the Obama-Biden presidential transition team, where he worked with both the technical and legal teams regarding transparency and ethics in the federal government.
