Feinstein Appoints USD Alumnus David S. Casey '74 (JD) to Oversee California's Judicial Nomination Process

San Diego January 6, 2009 – U.S. Senator Diane Feinstein (D-Calif.) has appointed University of San Diego School of Law alumnus David S. Casey, Jr., `74, statewide chair to oversee the four bipartisan advisory committees responsible for recommending judicial nominees to Senator Feinstein, who will then recommend nominees to President-elect Barack Obama. In addition, Alan Brubaker, `76, has been appointed to serve on the Southern District advisory committee. 

Casey, a San Diego attorney and longtime advisor to Senator Feinstein, will oversee the four bipartisan advisory committees in each of California’s federal court districts.  Committees will be responsible for screening applications, interviewing applications and recommending finalists for the positions of U.S. District Court Judge, U.S. Attorney and U.S. Marshal.

Casey is a senior partner at Casey, Gerry,. Schenk, Francavilla, Blatt & Penfield LLP.  He has been named Lawyer of the Year by the San Diego County Bar Association and is a past president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, now known as the American Association for Justice.

Brubaker is a partner at the San Diego firm Wingert, Grebing, Brubaker & Goodwin LLP.  He is the president-elect of the California Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, a former president of the San Diego Barristers Club and a former vice president of the San Diego County Bar Association.
