Los Angeles (April 30, 2018) – University of San Diego (USD) School of Law alumna and 2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards recipient Judge Lorna A. Alksne, ’92 (JD), was recently featured in the Los Angeles Daily Journal for her well-rounded expertise in a wide range of legal departments. From family court and domestic violence cases to murder trials, Judge Alksne has shown an exceptional amount of adaptability and skillfulness while serving the San Diego community.

The article reports that Alksne has been praised by many distinguished members of the law community for her kindness, versatility, and capability in the profession. Regardless of the subject matter at hand, Judge Alksne handles every case with consideration and grace. She says, “To maintain the respect of the community, there needs to be respect in the courtroom.”

While Alksne has experience in many different areas of the law, she has most recently started her two-year term as assistant presiding judge and after 2019 is expected to become the presiding judge. After she finishes her assignment, she is looking to return to family court. She states, “I think it’s incumbent upon our senior judges…to take a second round at it to help out.” While addressing other future goals, Alksne says “I’d like to have my legacy be that I did every assignment.”

The determination and ambition that Judge Alksne has displayed and her willingness to delve into any case, regardless of the department, is truly noteworthy and inspiring.
