USD School of Law Transactional Law Team Advances to Nationals

San Diego (March 7, 2018) - On Friday, February 23, 2018, two University of San Diego (USD) School of Law Transactional Law Teams participated in the 9th annual 2018 Transactional Law Meet®. The event comprised 8 regional competitions hosted at various law schools across the nation, with 96 teams participating. In the Boulder, Colorado Regional Competition, the team composed of second-year students Sara Pike, Rajdeep Bains, and Kayla Brennan were chosen as finalists representing the buyer’s side of the transaction. This team will advance to the National Rounds of the Transactional Law Meet® on April 6, 2018, at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York City. The Transactional Law Teams are coached by Dean Stephen Ferruolo, and the second-year team was coached at the Boulder Regional Competition by Julie Robinson, Of Counsel to the San Diego office of Cooley LLP. In the Austin, Texas Regional Competition, the team composed of third-year law students Rachel Ross, Brandon Shaw, and Jason Miller were chosen as semi-finalists. 

This year’s Transactional Law Meet® case involves the acquisition of all the outstanding capital stock of Volt Process Design Company (Volt) by an affiliate of Beijing Global Investors Limited (BGI), a Chinese-owned private equity firm. Over the course of two months the students draft and revise the acquisition agreement, interview their clients, mark-up drafts of opposing teams from other law schools, and negotiate the acquisition agreement for this US$2.25 billion transaction.
