USD Black History Month Events in February

The month of February is Black History Month. On the University of San Diego campus, multiple entities, including the Black Student Resource Center (BSRC), Black Student Union (BSU), Black Law Student Association (BLSA), Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA), United Front Multicultural Center (UFMC), Associated Students/Torero Program Board, Humanities Center, the Center for Educational Excellence (CEE), School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES), will host an array of events:

Feb. 2 — Black History Month Kickoff: Lunch for the Soul, Plaza Menor, 12-2 p.m.; BLSA Skate Night at Skate World, 7 p.m.; Friday Night Film Fest (every Friday, Feb. 2 to March 9): Roots, Palomar Multipurpose Room, The Vista Apartments, 8:30-10 p.m.

Feb. 5 — CEE and Humanities Center Film Series: I Am Not Your Negro, Serra Hall 200, 5-7 p.m.; BSU General Body Meeting, UC 113, 7-8 p.m.

Feb. 6 — BSRC will have a table at the Alcala Bazaar, Paseo de Colachis, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Feb. 7 — Office of Sustainability: Black Lives Matter in the Environment, UC 113, 12-1 p.m.

Feb. 8 — UFMC hosts Speak on It: Black Panther Dialogue, SLP 418, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; BLSA Film Series: The 13th, Serra Hall 200, 8:30 p.m.

Feb. 9 — BLSA/BSRC/Torero Program Board Special Event: Guest Lecturer, 5-7 p.m., Location TBD.

Feb. 12 — BLSA Speaker Series: “Racial Glass Ceiling,” by Professor Roy Brooks, Location TBD, 6:30 p.m.; BSU General Body Meeting, UC 113, 7-8 p.m.

Feb. 13 — BSRC Black Men and Women’s Collectives Joint Meeting, UC 113, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; BSU’s A Night at the Apollo, UC Forum C, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Feb. 15 — BGSA/SOLES Film Series: Tell Them We Are Rising, MRHH 102, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; UFMC: Beyond the Classroom: USD History Department’s Diversity Post-Doc Fellow: Dr. Channon Miller, SLP 418, 12:30-1:30 p.m.; BLSA: Seeking Equality in Our Schools: Mendez v. Westminster, KIPJ Theatre, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Feb. 16 — BSRC/TPB: Black Panther Movie Night in collaboration with UCSD, SDSU and CSU San Marcos, Reading Cinema, 7 p.m.

Feb. 19 — Humanities Center: Student-led Symposium on Beyonce’s Lemonade, Serra Hall 200, 4-5:30 p.m.; BSU General Body Meeting, UC 113, 7-8 p.m.

Feb. 20 — BSRC African Diaspora Fest, Paseo de Colachis, 12:15-2 p.m.

Feb. 21 — BSRC Faculty Speaker Series: Dr. Angela Nurse, Sociology Post-Doctoral Faculty Fellow, UC 113, 5-6 p.m.

Feb. 22 — USD Just Read! Black Panther: Between the World and Wakanda, KIPJ Room H, 12-2 p.m.
