USD Outreach to Those Affected by Recent Natural Disasters

USD Outreach to Those Affected by Recent Natural Disasters

Founders ChapelCollections at the Sunday night Masses in Founders Chapel on Sept. 17 and 24 supported Catholic Relief Services' work to aid and support those who have been impacted by earthquakes and hurricanes.

While we at the University of San Diego have much to be thankful for, the campus community is fully aware that recent hurricanes, wildfires and earthquakes have made life extremely difficult for many people. We continue to pray for the victims and invite the campus community to explore ways to support those in need.

Catholic Relief Services (CRF) is performing needs assessments, program and reconstruction coordination, and providing technical support for those areas affected.

We pray for those who are suffering from the effects of the devastating earthquakes in Mexico, wildfires in Montana and the Pacific Northwest, and the path of destruction left by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

Collections at the Sunday night Masses in Founders Chapel on Sept. 17 and 24 supported Catholic Relief Services' work to aid and support those who have been impacted by recent events. The collection on Oct. 1 will also go to support relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

A few considerations for donations to help those affected by the Mexico earthquakes include Catholic Relief Services — Mexico, the El Paso Community Foundation, the Mexican Red Cross and Topos de Tlateloloco, a non-profit organization that is a search and rescue team.

The American Red Cross of Montana is one of several organizations aiding those affected by the recent wildfires.

USD students are also taking the initiative to organize other relief services. One of these initiatives under development can be viewed here. Donated goods can be dropped off at the Ideation Station space inside the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sept. 26-28; goods will be sent to Oaxaca, Mexico through the airline Aeromexico. The Rotary Club will be handling donations for Puerto Rico.
