Welcome Week: Fun Events Greet All Toreros Sept. 6-14

As the 2017 fall semester begins, the University of San Diego welcomes all Toreros back to campus with a series of fun and special events designed to bring the community together, learn about more places on and off-campus and to make connections.

USD’s Welcome Week 2017 will take place September 6-14 at various places around campus. All events are free for students. Furthermore, the Black Student Resource Center (BSRC), which is located in UC 113), is hosting a Welcome Black Week (same dates) that is also open to all students.

Here’s the schedule that covers events for both celebrations: 

Wednesday, Sept. 6: Welcome and Wellness Kickoff, 12-2 p.m. at the new Paseo de Colachis; Welcome Dinner with President James T. Harris III, DEd, 4:30-7 p.m., Student Life Pavilion Dining; The Takeover, 6-8 p.m. at Frank’s Lounge; Mass for Peace, 9 p.m., Founders Chapel.

Thursday, Sept. 7: Speak On It (a dialogue series), 12:30-1:30 p.m., SLP 418 (United Front Multicultural Center); “How to Get Away with a 4.0, featuring Student Support Services, 12:30-1:30 p.m., UC 113; USD Night at the San Diego Padres’ home game against the St. Louis Cardinals, game time is 6:10 p.m. at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. Pickup tickets at the UC Box Office.

Sept. 7-8: Muralist artist Kelsey Montague will create an art installation at USD’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice. The theme of her work will center on peace and justice. She will begin her work on Sept. 7 and is expected to finish between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on Sept. 8. Friday, Sept. 8: Nothing Bundt Feminism (dialogue hosted by the USD Women’s Center), 12-2 p.m., SLP 420; Welcome Bash at Valley Field, 8-10 p.m.; Target Night, 10 p.m. to midnight, bus pickup in front of the Student Life Pavilion.

Saturday, Sept. 9: Day at the Bay, 1-4 p.m., Mission Bay Aquatic Center; Game Night, 7-9 p.m., Frank’s Lounge and Fire Pits area.

Sunday, Sept. 10: Campus Recreation-hosted Torero Pool Party, 12-2 p.m., Sports Center Pool; Sunday Night Mass, 7 and 9 p.m., Founders Chapel.

Monday, Sept. 11: Special 9/11 Commemoration, 9/11 Memorial at the Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice’s Garden of the Sky.

Tuesday, Sept. 12: Alcala Bazaar (learn about clubs, organizations, programs, centers and institutes on campus), 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., along Torero Way; BSRC Taco Tuesday, 5:3 p.m., in Old Town; USD Women’s Volleyball Match vs. San Diego State and Pregame Tailgate, 6 p.m., Jenny Craig Pavilion.

Wednesday, Sept. 13: Taste of USD’s on-campus eateries, 12-2 p.m. at various sites.

Thursday, Sept. 14: Traditional Fall Semester-opening Mass of the Holy Spirit, 12:15 p.m., The Immaculata Church; Black Women’s Collective and Black Men’s Collective, 12:30-2 p.m., UC 113.
