Assessing the Effects of Education and Civic Engagement in Youth Radicalization and Violent Extremism in Somalia

In collaboration with Mercy Corps, a team from the Kroc School of Peace Studies and the Institute for Peace and Justice has received a grant from the United States Institute of Peace to study the effectiveness of community-based countering violent extremism (CVE) programs in Somalia. In particular, the research will compare the effectiveness of government-led programming with community-led programming in reducing the propensity of youth to engage in violence. The research will be shared with, and assessed by, the Institute for Peace and Justice’s Women PeaceMakers Network in order to better understand the generalizability of the research results.
