The Immaculata Hosts Blessing of the Animals on Oct. 1

Blessing of the AnimalsThe Immaculata Church will host a celebratory event on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9-11 a.m. on the east lawn. A blessing for all animals will take place at 10 a.m.

Are you an animal lover and/or a pet owner? If so, you and your dog, cat, bird, fish and other animals are invited to the east lawn area of The Immaculata Church on Saturday, Oct. 1, for a special Blessing of the Animals program as part of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi celebration.

The event runs from 9-11 a.m. with the blessing of the animals at 10 a.m. This event is for animals and animal lovers. All furry, feathered and scaly friends welcome. Animals should be pet, people and priest friendly and must be on a leash, crated or caged as appropriate. If you’re unable to bring your pet in person, please to bring a photo of your pet to the event.

In addition to the ceremony, there will be refreshments, crafts for kids, a Best Friend photo booth, training tips, pet supply vendors and grooming demonstrations, micro-chipping services for $10, homemade dog cookies, as well as representatives from the Herpetology Society, Labs and More Dog Rescue and St. Francis medal pet tags. A pet supply drive will take place, too, as new or gently used pet supplies (collars, leashes, crates, kitty litter, bowls, towels, toys, beds, food, etc.) and monetary donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to a local rescue group and the San Diego Humane Society.

The cost to attend is free, though some vendors will have items for sale.
