USD TO HOST MEXICAN ANTI-VIOLENCE ACTIVIST

Javier Sicilia is Time Magazine’s 2011 Man of the Year

SAN DIEGO, CA: On Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 4:00 p.m., the University of San Diego’s Trans-Border Institute (TBI) will host a public presentation by Mexican anti-violence activist Javier Sicilia as part of Sicilia’s "Caravan for Peace."

Mr. Sicilia is an internationally recognized poet who lost his son to violence by organized crime groups in Mexico and, after launching the "Movement for Peace and Dignity" and organizing multiple protest marches throughout Mexico, will begin a month long caravan from San Diego to Washington, D.C., drawing on the assistance of local activist groups like the Border Angels to generate interest and support.

As part of his visit here in San Diego, the Trans-Border Institute has helped to organize two events at the University of San Diego. There will be a special mass at Founder's Chapel at 3:00 p.m. and a public talk at the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies auditorium at 4:00 p.m.
