Former Israeli Parliament member addresses peace for Israelis and Palestinians during lecture at USD

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 12, 2007 – Former Knesset member Marcia Freedman will speak at 7 p.m., Nov. 14 at the University of San Diego Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice to discuss the prospects for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. The founding president of the non-profit group, Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace (Brit Tzedek v’Shalom), Freedman was a rare spokesperson for women's issues in the Knesset, where she served from 1973 through 1977, going on to co-found the Women's Party in 1977.

Freedman’s progressive views and pioneering spirit have sought to forge new pathways for peace between the Israelis and Palestinians. She is an advocate for a two-state solution; dismantlement of the settlements in the West Bank; and a resumption of a meaningful diplomatic campaign by the United States to help bring peace, justice and security to both peoples. Her organization, Brit Tzedek v'Shalom (the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace) seeks to educate and mobilize American Jews in support of a negotiated two-state resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

These efforts for peace will potentially be given new impetus by the upcoming U.S.-brokered peace summit to take place in Annapolis, Maryland in the coming weeks.
