Becoming a Torero: Ole! Weekend Welcomes New Students

Welcome to the University of San Diego, new Toreros! The first day of school has arrived and everyone’s ready to go, whether you’re a first-year student living in one of our residence halls, a commuter student, new transfer student or a returning student who already knows the drill.

But one thing that everyone has in common is that they've each gone through a USD orientation program. On Aug. 26-29, those who comprise the Class of 2020 took part in Ole! Weekend.

From move-in day, picnic, a Welcome Mass and a night-time San Diego Zoo visit to on-campus activities, getting answers to questions posed to preceptors and preceptorial assistants, it was a busy time. By Monday’s New Student Convocation, which concluded with the academic integrity pledge and then an athletics showcase at Fowler Park in which new students chanted “Ole!” in unison, we’d say our students are definitely primed and ready to start the 2016-17 academic year. Welcome again and good luck to all of our True Blue Toreros!

A big thank you to everybody in the USD campus community — faculty, staff, administrators, student leaders, student organizations, alumni, parents and families — who helped and supported USD’s newest Toreros.

We hope you enjoy a sampling of photos taken during Ole! Weekend by Nick Abadilla and Ryan T. Blystone.
