Wonderful Day for USD's Eighth Annual Wine Classic

The wonderful San Diego weather and the University of San Diego’s Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice’s Garden of the Sea contributed to a terrific scene for the Eighth Annual USD Wine Classic on July 17.

2016 USD Wine Classic

This year’s event featured more than 50 wines from 30 wineries in California, Oregon, Washington and Mexico that each had a connection to USD alumni, friends or family members. Guests enjoyed learning about and sampling wines, dining on delicious gourmet food by USD Dining Services, enjoying a decadent dessert at the Torero Tu Go food truck, and using the mobile app, BidPal, to bid on an array of top-level auction items.

New this year was the Wine Pull, in which guests paid $25 and received a cork with a number on it. Each number was good for a bottle of wine priced at $25 or higher, but one lucky number was good for a $150 bottle of wine.

Net proceeds from the USD Wine Classic, the July 16 Vintner’s Dinner and a pre-Wine Classic event, Zintastic! — a Zinfandel component blending seminar with St. Francis Winery President and CEO Christopher Silva — go to the Alumni Endowed Scholarship Fund to provide much-needed scholarship support for USD students. The Wine Classic, to date, has contributed more than $400,000 toward student scholarships.
