SOLES Hosts 3 June Conferences

The University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences (SOLES) will host three unique to San Diego conferences in June that highlight the role that leadership can play in our communities.

June 17: Serving Those Who Serve

This one-day professional development workshop is for mental health providers and trainees across disciplines. Six continuing education credits are available to LPCC Counselors, MFTs, Psychologists and LCSWs.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Heidi Squier Kraft who will address "1-5-15: What American Veterans Want You to Know." There will also be a panel of veterans and active duty service members sharing their experiences and perspectives on mental health issues.

The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mother Rosalie Hill Hall. The cost to attend is $45 general registration, $65 registration plus continuing education units. Registration includes breakfast and lunch.

June 23-24: 20th annual “Character Matters” Conference

Every year teachers, administrators, social workers, coaches, parents, caregivers and college instructors gather from around the world to learn why character education matters in our educational system. Attendees will learn cutting-edge techniques to teach character education from experts around the globe.

Three internationally recognized keynote speakers will address attendees: Dr. Michele Borba, Psychologist and Author: UnSelfie: the Surprising Role of Empathy; Dr. Thomas Lickona, Professor and Author: Raising Children, Educating for Character; Mann Rentoy, Character Education Partnership, Philippines.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. It will be held inside Mother Rosalie Hill Hall. The keynote addresses will be in MRHH’s Executive Classroom 102. The cost to attend varies between $75-$200.

June 28: State of Nonprofits and Philanthropy Summit

Hosted by the Caster Family Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Research, this informative day of research and practical learning opportunities will guide San Diego's nonprofit and philanthropic leaders in creating, implementing and evaluating innovative and collaborative strategies for the future.

Key findings from the annual State of the Nonprofits and Philanthropy Report will be discussed which include describing the capacity, contributions, and overall economic health and well-being of San Diego’s nonprofit and philanthropic sector. The report is a compilation of the quarterly State of Nonprofits Index and other nonprofit research, including a survey based on the perspectives of local nonprofit leaders.

Following the report presentation and panel discussion, a series of professional development and dialogue workshops designed to encourage collaboration and action will take place.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Mother Rosalie Hill Hall’s Warren Auditorium, Room 116. Attending the research release only, from 8:30-11 a.m., is free. Tickets for the full day of summit programming are sold out.
