Class of 2016: 59th School of Law Commencement

The 59th School of Law Commencement ceremony on May 14 featured the first address of graduating students by new University of San Diego President James T. Harris III, DEd, speeches by Law Dean Stephen Ferruolo, Qualcomm Inc. President Derek Aberle ’96 and graduating student Jason Avelar ’16 (JD) in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

2016 Law Commencement

The USD law school’s Class of 2016 consisted of 211 juris doctor recipients, 60 earning Master of Law (LLM) environmental and energy law, business and corporate law, comparative law, international law and taxation and five who completed a Master of Science in Legal Studies.

Furthermore, The Thorsnes Prizes for Excellence in Teaching and Outstanding Legal Scholarship were announced by Vice Dean and Professor of Law Mary Jo Wiggins. USD law faculty members Walter Heiser and Ted Sichelman were the recipients, respectively.

The School of Law Commencement, which was streamed live on the USD website, can be viewed for up to one week (May 21) on the USD Commencement webpage.

USD’s Commencement ceremonies continue May 21 with the Graduate Schools graduation at 10 a.m. and both undergraduate ceremonies, College of Arts and Sciences at 9 a.m. and the School of Business and Shiley-Marcos School of Engineering at 2 p.m., on May 22. All three of these ceremonies, which will take place in the JCP along with the May 21 Baccalaureate Mass (4 p.m.), can be viewed live on the days listed and for one week after that.
