Copley Library: Digitally Focused

The University of San Diego's Copley Library hosted its third annual Digital Initiatives Symposium April 27-28, drawing librarians and national organization administrators from around the nation to share and learn best practices for ways that university libraries can adapt to the latest digitization methods.

Theresa Byrd, EdD, Dean of the University Library, was pleased with the symposium, which expanded to a second day for the first time with three afternoon workshops on April 27. The actual full day schedule of speakers and panel sessions took place on April 28.

There were 80 who attended the pre-symposium workshops and nearly 150 from 18 states and Canada for the full-day session.

John Russell from the Center for Humanities and Information at Penn State University and James Neal, Columbia University Librarian Emeritus, were the morning and afternoon keynote speakers. Sessions featured university library staff members speaking on topics such as digital humanities, a newspaper digitalization project for Catholic publications, collaborative efforts, undergraduate research and exploring the roles and responsibilities of deans and directors in digital initiatives and institutional repositories.
