New Workshops Provide Learning at the Speed of Business
Today's business world moves faster than ever and it is constantly evolving. To stay in business means adapting to changes at every turn as well as building onto one's foundational skill set.
For the University of San Diego’s Professional and Continuing Education (PCE), there are a number of certificate programs and courses available to satisfy an employer or an employee’s needs to stay current and strengthen their skills in a short-term manner. But what if even a certificate program isn’t fast enough for your needs based on time available? What if you just want a quick primer, to listen, learn and apply something on the spot? Maybe it’s a way to move past a stagnant situation with your business approach?
PCE’s Business Programs has the answer: Business Workshops. These workshops, the first one beginning March 1, consist of one three-hour session — offered two different days in a week — available in the morning or evening and focus on a specific topic.
“The workshops are chunks of our (certificate) courses,” said Pamela Cappiello, PCE program manager. “Not everybody has enough time and they want to learn something quick and want to put it into practice right away. By giving them these workshops, they can pick and choose.”
March’s workshops focus on small business management and such topics as aligning goals, business growth, profit formula and operations. April’s workshops are leadership-minded with lessons for successful leadership, leading diverse teams and leading adaptive challenges of a changing world. May workshops take on marketing and sales with a look at lead generation, reputation management and client retention, Google ad campaigns and making sense of Google analytics data.
Each workshop is $125 and take place on USD's campus. Morning sessions are from 8:30-11:30 a.m. while evening workshops are from 6-9. Some workshops are only offered at night. Discounts apply for current USD employees and USD alumni.
Led by expert practitioners in the field, including some who are USD faculty members, these sessions are interactive and focus on critical skills development. They are highly engaged and timely with presentations, discussions and hands-on activities to sharpen participants’ understanding of the subject matter.
Cappiello said the business workshops will also be offered in the summer and fall. “This is high-quality education and a great opportunity,” Cappiello said. “These workshops will give you the tools to improve your skills.”
