Dean Sally Hardin Named Top Healthcare Educator

Sally Brosz Hardin, dean of the University of San Diego’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, was honored Sept. 18 as the 2014 Healthcare Educator of the Year by the San Diego Business Journal.

The San Diego Business Journal's 2014 Healthcare Champions Awards recognized individuals within the San Diego community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and innovation in the rapidly changing health care industry.

Hardin, who has served as dean since 2003, received her award at a ceremony at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. She was recognized for a number of efforts including successfully leading the planning, development and fundraising for the $18 million Betty and Bob Beyster Institute for Nursing Research, Advanced Practice, and Simulation that is designed to prepare the next generation of nurse scientists, educators, executives and advanced practitioners. The university broke ground last spring on the institute that is scheduled for completion at the end of next summer.

The Business Journal also noted her leadership in joining forces with the White House to serve the nation’s veterans. Hardin was one of 20 deans from around the country who joined with First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden in 2012 to launch a national effort to further educate the nation’s three million nurses so they are prepared to meet the unique healthcare needs of service members, veterans and their families.
