Sally Hardin, Dean of the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Joseph Burkard, DNSc, CRNA, Associate Professor, to attend the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s second annual Faculty Policy Intensive on March 24-27, 2014 in Washington, DC. This fully-funded, four-day immersion program is designed for faculty at AACN member schools who are interested in actively pursuing a role in healthcare and nursing policy. The 2014 cohort was chosen from a highly competitive pool of more than 30 applications nationwide and the eight selectees will have the opportunity to enhance their existing knowledge of policy and advocacy through sessions that will strengthen their understanding of the legislative process and the dynamic relationships between federal departments and agencies, national nursing organizations, and the individual advocate. At the conclusion of the Intensive, participants will put their new advocacy skills to use as AACN Faculty Policy Fellow.
