Forbes -- Ideas and adventure abound at San Diego Cooperative Charter School. For example, when students learned that their teacher’s spouse was being deployed, they decided to make blankets and care packages for military personnel and families. When a teacher discovered students’ interest in wilderness exploration, he designed a “survival” elective in which students learned to build makeshift forts and tools. Furthermore, when a group of teachers grew concerned that students were not interacting enough across age groups, they designed a multi-age component of the school day in which students work on collaborative projects. USD students graduate dedicated to their community and willing to propose solutions to social problems. (Full Story
