French Major Is Awarded Prestigious Fellowship
French major Jorge Benavides has had a busy four years at USD considering that he also majored in International Relations and minored in Spanish. In addition to his courses here, he also took full advantage of study abroad opportunities in France, Italy, Mexico, and Argentina. His work merited recognition from the faculty of French at this year's Honors Convocation and now his linguistic skills, experience abroad, and training in IR have earned him a 2013 Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship.
These fellowships are administered by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation for the U.S. Department of State with the intention of developing a source of men and women whose academic backgrounds fulfill the skill needs of the State Department and who are dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad. The fellowship award means that Mr. Benavides will receive financial support towards a two-year, full-time master’s degree program in International Development at American University. Upon the completion of his master’s degree, he will commit to three years of service as a Foreign Service Officer.
The faculty of the department congratulate him and wish him well in his studies and his career.
