USD Grad’s Path Began with Discarded Computer

U-T San Diego -- One of the first computers Nicholas Nobles used as a kid was one he put together, using parts from his family’s broken desktop and one he found in a Dumpster behind a 7-Eleven where his parents worked.

In his words, he “Frankensteined” them together into a functioning machine.

His interest in computer science grew the summer before he enrolled at the University of San Diego, when he participated in a pre-undergraduate research experience program. Initially he was thinking about studying engineering but was steered toward computer science.

Now 22, Nobles will graduate with a double major in computer science and math next Sunday and plans to go onto UC Riverside to pursue a doctorate. (Full Story)
