SAN DIEGO (April 20, 2013)—The Student Bar Association (SBA) and the University of San Diego (USD) School of Law’s Office for JD Student Affairs hosted the second annual Student Leadership Breakfast to honor the many student leaders and student organizations who work tirelessly for their school, their community and their law student colleagues.

Dean Stephen Ferruolo provided welcoming remarks to the group of more than 90 students and alumni Andrew Haden, ’08 (JD), provided the keynote address on the value of leadership, emphasizing how his own involvement in law school shaped his career as an attorney.

Assistant Director for JD Student Affairs Irene Condella presented two students with the USD Enhancement Award.  This annual award is given to students who exemplify leadership and are innovative in their methods to involve other law students and the larger San Diego community.  This year’s recipients were: Trenton Kashima (far right), president for the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (VICAM), for his efforts to establish a course for the VICAM team; and Michelle Silva (center, left), SBA treasurer, for her role in transforming the SBA funding and reimbursement processes.

Outgoing SBA President Joshua Poulsen presented the new SBA Executive Board officers for 2013-14:  President, Michelle Silva; Vice President, Amanda Wiesner; Vice President of Student Organizations, Ernie Chen; Secretary, Adabela Bonillo; and Treasurer, Erin Osmak.

Outgoing SBA Vice President Shane Waller presented the award for Student Organization of the Year to the Business Law Society, which was accepted by their president, Peter Bower (center, right).  The Business Law Society was very active this year, holding multiple attorney panels and starting an online magazine, California Business Practice.
